Originally developed for military applications in World War ll as ballistic missile nose cone material, Corning Ware’s Pyroceram also proved effective in bakeware in the home after the war. This glass-ceramic, non-porous material was capable of withstanding sudden temperature changes and was resistant to stains and odors. This same dish could be used for cooking, freezing and serving food, a boon to cooks looking for cooking shortcuts. The lids are typically made of Pyrex tempered glass now. Vintage Corning Ware Blue Cornflower 10in Dish w/Lid. This dish is one of the earlier ones. It has the cornflower stamp on back but does not mentioned microwave which separates the earlier ones from the later ones. The bottom does have scuff marks and shows that a lot of meals went into the oven in the dish. Has some wear on the handles and a tiny mark inside the base It does have the cornflower stamp on it which makes it a rare dish. Overall, for being so vintage the dish is in good shape. True vintage mid century CorningWare. This is from the 1960s era as can be seen by the small knob handle on the cover lid. I believe it’s early 60s. From grandma’s house! In 1958, Corning Inc. Started producing Pyroceram cookware under the brand name CorningWare. ” Pyroceram is a glass-ceramic mix that can withstand an oven’s high temperatures that can go “from freezer to oven to table. Bakes beautifully and so easy to clean. Cornflower Blue by Corning. Type 10 inch covered casserole dish, model P10B, measures approximately 9.5×9.5×2. This is a square baking, cooking pan with a lid. The bottom says 10 in but my measurements are less. Has some markings from regular usage. Scratches and markings on handles. See photo for details.
