Vintage CorningWare 2 1/2 Quart Blue Cornflower Casserole Dish w/Lid P-2-1/2-B USA. CorningWare was once an everyday staple for many families and is now a pretty hot collectible item of kitchen ware. The opaque dishes with cute designs on the sides were first made in Corning, New York, in the 1950s a true post-war invention for the modern family. By the 1960’s a lot of family households had acquired this kitchen ware with this design. CorningWare is extremely accommodating in the kitchen. You can take it out of the refrigerator, into the oven, straight to the table and back again. It is safe in the microwave, convection and conventional ovens, freezer, refrigerator and dishwasher. It is exceptionally durable and can be handed down for generations. First generation rare vintage blue corningware cornflower casserole dish from the 1960’s. This was my grandmothers dish. Includes both a 2 1/2 Qt Casserole Dish with glass lid, and a 5 Qt Dutch Oven with glass lid. Both have the “Floral Bouquet” pattern that is valuable to collectors. The Casserole Dish is marked P 2 1/2 B and appears to be a 1971 Third Edition collectible. The lid is marked A-9-c 1. The Dutch Oven is marked P34B and is 5 quarts, with a glass lid marked P-12-C. This is a 1971 edition also. The original Corningware products developed before 1975, became valuable and are considered vintage. However, there are many patterns and styles, and some knockoffs hit the market. How can you tell the valuable vintage collectibles from the cheaper items? A number of ways. First, check the manufacturers stamp at the bottom of the item. The stamp on this item shows it is an original Third Edition from 1971. Also check the impression on the glass lid.
